The “Sweet” Fix for Chronically Chapped Lips!

cure chapped lips

Now that winter has officially taken its leave, it’s time to make room for a season of love and new beginnings! A great way to ring in the Spring is to get rid of winter’s notorious parting gift — crusty, chapped lips.
Chaffed lips occur due to extreme temperature differences, allergies, and dehydration to name a few. If you find yourself layering Chap Stick every hour over chronically cracked lips, it’s time to show your lips the TLC they deserve with this “sweet” miracle trick!

  • Mix same parts sugar and water in a little bowl until it becomes a thick paste, and coat your lips with this mixture (you can also use baking soda, as this works really well for lips that peel). Try not to lick it ALL off if you use sugar, I was definitely tempted! ;)
  • With a soft-bristled tooth brush, buff the mixture off your lips in circular motions until all the dry skin is off and the lip underneath feels fleshy and smooth.
  • Once all the mixture  is buffed off, coat your lips with natural vitamin E (this can come from popping a capsule of it or straight oil). The vitamin E as an antioxidant has external healing properties in it that re-connect and soothe the soft tissue of your lips.

…and voila! Here are my lips after this treatment coated (more like glopped!) with vitamin E. You will find your lips get extremely flushed after exfoliation, as the blood will rise to the surface of your lips after getting a good scrub! This technique is especially effective when done before bed, as your body is in repair mode while its sleeping, thus accelerating this healing process.
With fresh, smooth and healthy lips, you have no excuse not to give your sweetest smile!

Exfoliate your lips, then try a lip stain if you don’t like lip gloss or lip stick! Revlon has a few natural looking lip stains!

You could always consider making a homemade sugar scrub instead of using a toothbrush (which could damage your lips if they are already sore). I made a sugar scrub and use a circular motion (like waxing a car!) on each lip for 30 seconds or so. Its not too abrasive and works well for me. The recipie I used is over on
